NEW ASD definition
New Definition of Autism Expected in DSM-V
The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), due out in May 2012, is likely to include a more strict definition of autism which is expected to reduce the number of individuals with this diagnosis. The proposal would eliminate Asperger’s syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) and merge these under the single diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders. For more information on the proposed changes and their implications, click here: http://na05.mypinpointe.com/link.php?M=1462524&N=5546&L=3395&F=H Taken from Boothby Therapy services

videos of AAC in action from Proloquo2Go
Sharing below some videos of AAC in action from Proloquo2Go:
Hello,
Watching communication apps in action often provides more information for family members and colleagues than a written or verbal description. With that in mind, AssistiveWare has started a video project and the response has been very positive.
While our videos feature Proloquo2Go, the focus is on the individual successfully interacting and learning and it could easily be another iOS AAC app being used. Each video demonstrates positive outcomes from using an iOS AAC app such as increased verbalizations, stronger motivation to use speech generating devices versus static systems, as well as the potential for some to learn to do their own programming. We invite you to take a look and share the wonderful stories of Vanessa, Nick and Max.

Best iPad Visual Schedule and Social Story Apps For Autistic Children
Best iPad Visual Schedule and Social Story Apps For Autistic Children
A decent review by Autism Plugged In of some of the scheduling and social apps. Missing however is My Video Schedule that uses both photos and videos in the schedule, great for increasing independent work and providing motivational clips within schedules. There are many more social skills apps not included in this review. Read carefully before you purchase, also watch You Tube videos of these apps or check out reviews on Apps 4 Chidlren with Special Needs

FREE Dropbox
Click here to create a FREE Dropbox account that you can access from any device. Here's how it works. Follow the link to create a FREE account on your computer. Start creating folders and copying info you want access to when you are on the go. Could be large video clips, folders of photos, backup files or documents too large to share via email such as some PowerPoints. If you want to share with others or work collaboratively on a document, invite others to view and edit a folder or file. Also download the FREE app on your mobile device and sign in. Dropbox allows you to simply access your own content from your iPhone or iPad. Information is synced so you are always up to date. And it's free. This is proving to be a very handy application. Instead of using up my space with videos and photos on my iPad, I just link them here and view them as needed.
